Ready for the new season?

Time for fashion campaign.

And suddenly it’s already August. Despite the fact that most of the people are feeling summery only from the last few weeks and are going on holiday in these days, fashion labels, that are always ages ahead human time, are already giving us a hint of AW 13/14 style through their advertising campaigns.

What I like about ad campaigns is that they want to tell you little stories, that sometimes they become short movies and you can always enjoy for free.

Here a small selection. Still waiting for more campaigns!

The Great Gatsby – Dressed by Prada and Miu Miu, dancing good music produced by Jay-Z

the great gatsby

Already in cinemas in USA from the 10th of May, ready for UK cinemas from the 16th of May, The Great Gatsby is one of the most awaited movies of this early 2013.

This version of the movie, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel published in 1925 and directed by Baz Luhrmann (Rome+Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Australia), follows other four previous movies, and it seems to have an appeal to the public completely new.

Beyond the great cast (Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Joen Edgerton, Isla Fisher), what I can say about it is that definitely the choice of the costumes comes from an  exceptional collaboration, since Miuccia Prada, designer of Prada and Miu Miu, accepted to provide this movie with some of the best clothes created for previous collections, and then rearranged for the big screen. The final result: spectacular outfits that add to Luhrmann’s version of The Great Gatsby that “something more” that makes definitely the difference, made already special by an amazing hip-hop, R&B, pop, rock and indie, all mixed with hints of jazz and blues soundtrack executive-produced by Jay-Z. About that, just few names: Andre 3000, Florence+the Machine, The xx, Lana Del Rey, Jack White, Beyonce, Emile Sandé, will. i. am, Fergie.

Curious enough? As I said, the movie is out in UK on May 16 🙂

Prada Candy L’Eau – Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola are back.

Our beloved director Wes Anderson and his co-writer of Moonrise Kingdom , Roman Coppola, are again together with another genious and fun project. Prada has given them the task of creating the new advertising campaign for the perfume Candy.

The result: an authentic Wes Anderson-ian work, starring Léa Seydoux. And well done again to Prada for the perfect targeted choice of its campaigns (see “A Therapy” by Roman Polanski)!

Here you are Prada L’Eau.

It’s Fashion Weeks Time! – Part III – Milan Fashion Week AW13/14

So here we are…it is time for Milan to show its style. It is amazing to see that every city has its own “personality” that distinguishes one from the other. And in Milan the style is absolutely…Italian! Classy, “rich”, a little bit posh that sometimes flows in a conscious, slightly aggressive femininity . Deep cultural roots are here sometimes really obvious, showing Italy’s internal diversities (Dolce&Gabbana is always the most glaring example). Show off with class then!

One interesting thing: we noticed with pleasure that brogues and Oxford shoes, as well as flatforms, loafers and even trainers are often more considered and used then high heels in this Italian fashion season.

Here our favourite picks.

Our Favourite Upcoming Trends

Trends…trends…trends? I still don’t know how something can become a trend. Everytime this process happen I always ask to myself :”What sorcery is this!?”, how come that all of a sudden everyone is talking about it? Well, all I can say is that if you want to “discover” new trends you just need to have a look around you and follow your feelings.
The new Season is about to start and we think we may have guessed at least a couple of products that could be excellent candidates to be new hitting trends, or at least they are interesting enough to keep the attention on them for a long while.
Check it out and let us know what do you think!

Yves Saint Laurent. It is been already a cult classic for a while and this one seems another lucky season for the Arty gold-pleated ring of YSL. How to recognize a trend? When imitations of it are sold in the weekend’s markets…and some of them are really good though! (ssshh…Sunday Up Market)

Prada Women/Men. They may appear a little bit…clownish, but the new extravagant shoes of the Italian brand have something fascinating. Don’t like them? Let’s resume the conversation about it in three months!

Prada/Miu Miu patters. Who said that the 70’s and Glam Rock were gone? Colour block, geometric patters, “sparkling” colour combination. In the House of Prada they still love Willy Wonka too, and we are glad of it!

Alexander Wang. Also Wang’s Rocco and Rickie Dumbo bowling studded bags have already been hitting the trends for a while and still, and more than ever, they are on top in the book of the most wanted.

Flatform shoes/Clogs. It is been a while since the so 90’s flatform and wedge shoes have been the most wanted shoes in the High Street after Prada launched their own version of wedge brouges for the SS 2011 collection, but for clogs it seems the beginning of a lucky season. Important note: clogs are more interesting with the rounded small studs around the sole! (From the left edge: classic creepers, House of Holland for Superga, Asos, Office shoes, F-Troupe, Swedish Has Beens, Funkis 991, Rieke Nen).

Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiere. “Egyptofunk” is the name of the collection. From the number of the photoshootings you can find in the next month’s magazines in which you can see the “Glitter Girl” top, you may have a more clear  idea of what and where this collection will may be in a couple of months. Check at the above-mentioned imitations. And what can I say? If we can have back the Glam Rock, a hint of glittery 80’s do not kill!

Topshop Unique. The military style is going to be pretty popular this winter and rumors say that Topshop Unique AW 2012 is the official author of this style: soldier oversized jackets, army boots, the inevitable cross patterns and a touch of 90’s. Get ready!

Pleated skirt. My advice? Keep an eye to the 3/4 lenght pleated skirt. This item is popping up on the High Street ever more often and seems to be well accepted. Let’s give it some time..it could be a nice surprise. The one from Zara is, at the moment, my favourite.

Pencil skirt. And then another skirt. According with the spreading 90’s wave, the pencil skirt is no longer the skirt for the “office uniform” only. The longer, the better, the black jersey pencil skirt from Topshop is currently the best choice..and this is the reason why I will have it very soon!

Hello September!!

Prada is…’A Therapy’ for Roman Polanski

Put together one of my favourite (and few) luxury brand, a film director with a definitely brilliant CV and two high level actors.

The magic combination goes under the name of “A Therapy”, a short movie presented for the very first time during last week’s Cannes Film Festival, directed by Roman Polanski and realized for the italian luxury brand Prada, starring Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Kingsley.

Powerful shots and photography, “vintage” location, good choice of few items. This is  what they mean when they say that when you choose something to wear you choose a way of life.
