A Band’s Style #005# – Crystal Fighters

Scissors Closests and Streets is a blog about an alternative way to see and live Fashion. Part of Goosebumps Mag, SCS is a sort of a wishlist of things we love, and we think are special. It is the kind of lifestyle we want to have and we can actually be part of. It is affordable fashion, it is stylish bands with their catchy music, it is known and less known movies and the style we find in them, it is young and fresh designers/brands, it is love for (not so expensive) shoes. Being part of society, if not society itself, Fashion has different sides. We found our favourite and personal one, through which we look at the World. We will publish some specific pieces here, but for a more in-depth experience into our side of Fashion head to scissorsclosetsandstreets.wordpress.com.

Vibrant gypsies.

Crystal Fighters

A mixture of sounds and cultures, the love for Basque traditions and folklore, the constant feeling of being involved in a story of mythology and forgotten, wild prophecies and rituals whenever they go live on stage. The Crystal Fighters, part British and part Basque, definitely is an outstanding, eclectic and talented band. Continue reading A Band’s Style #005# – Crystal Fighters

Big up for Australian style!

Formed in 2009 under the name of King George, and later changed into the current name, San Cisco, these four australian guys, Jordi, Scarlett, Josh and Nick, make me enjoy even more indie-pop music. Continue reading A Band’s Style #004# – San Cisco

Let’s spend a (worthy) word about – A LED dress for Little Boots

Little Boots, Michelle Wu, The Creators Project and the fabulous LED dress.

The Creators Project never get it wrong! I really appreciate the way they look into Fashion and they celebrate it as a powerful form of art and communication, more than a simple way to “show up clothes” (see This Must Be The Only Fantasy). This time they documented the collaboration between Cyber Cinderella, electro-pop musician  Little Boots, and fashion designer Michelle Wu, who created for her a LED dress that reacts with the beats of her songs, while on tour. A Band’s Style #003# – King Tuff

Have fun with King Tuff.

To be completely honest King Tuff is not a proper band, well it is, but it is more likely a “project”, the very latest one, that comes form a single, unique, very bizarre, as well as acutely talented, person. His real name is Kyle Thomas, form Brattleboro, Vermont (USA), but I personally like more the name King Tuff, I love the sound of it and it siuts him, really.

Leader of the garage-punk Happy Birthday, member of the bands Feathers and Witch, this chameleonic guy is always up to something, always creating diverse music, never boring or predictable.

With King Tuff, the band, the music that comes out is catchy and fun, that kind of Rock & Roll sounds that make you dance during live performances (they are even more cool live!), bouncing or tapping your foot when you listen to it through your ipod, over and over again.

Then the look: always wearing a baseball hat (from beneath which come out wild, long, wavy hair), odd earrings, checkered shirts, denim jackets, kitch rings…King Tuff has that 90s “slacker” look that makes impossible not to love, along with his music.

Let me tell you, in case you haven’t noticed yet, the guy is a bit weird too, and that is why I like him even more!

Let’s spend a (worthy) word about – “This Must Be The Only Fantasy”

Fantastic Rodarte.

Despite what it may seems at first glance, this short movie is not some sort of deleted scene of Legend, nor Labirinth. It can’t even be an unseen scene of The Lord of the Rings…it is way too sparkly and “dreamy” in a wonderful 80s’ style to be Peter Jackson’s movie. Elijah Wood is in there though…

“This Must Be The Only Fantasy” actually is the latest, exciting collaboration between fashion house Rodarte, and filmmaker Todd Cole, produced by The Creators Project. Inspired by Rodarte’s Spring Summer 2013 collection, which explored the same topics as in the movie, this is an open tribute to 80s fantasy role-playing games, a 13 minutes video where fantasy becomes reality and vice versa.

I must say that I am an 80s Fantasy genre, movies in particular, devoted fan: all that glittery powder, over-sprayed, backcombed (and more glittered) hair, the fake contact lenses, the overdone make-up, the blurred images, the unicorns, the naughty and beautiful fairies, the extra ugly dwarves and extra evil villain, David Bowie in white lycra tights, Tom Cruise full of glitter (glitter is the key 🙂 )…the whole lot just amazes me!

It also happens that lately my interest in Rodarte’s collections is significantly increased, especially from the last two seasons. This is why I particularly appreciated this short movie, the third one of the interesting collection of videos that Todd has done in collaboration with Rodarte, all very successful (Aanteni, 2010, The Curve Of Forgotten Things, 2011, featuring Elle Fanning).

A Band’s Style #002# – Is Tropical

Is Tropical.

Dear Reader,

as I hope you know, I am quite passionate about good music and openly catchy, firmly unique, blatanlty stylish people. Now, currently there are, in this messy and various world, some people that need HAVE TO be recognized and highlited because of their music AND their style.

So here my “motivation letter” in which I explain why Is Tropical is a band with all the qualities to be a great one.

Simon, Gary and Dominic, the Is Tropical trio, are together pure new rave (“bass heavy, beat driven, pop-influenced lo-fi dance music”, as they describe their music) sounds, fun and style. These guys have something strongly appealing in their music and their appearance that makes it impossible not to enjoy their performances. They well express the London urban/hypster style and attitude, they are smart and cheeky, talented and aware of their potential.

This is why, dear Reader, from my little slice of the web world in which I can express my opinion, I had to show all my appreciation for this band. Was worth to spend a few words about Is Tropical: this is a band with style!
