A Band’s Style #005# – Crystal Fighters

Scissors Closests and Streets is a blog about an alternative way to see and live Fashion. Part of Goosebumps Mag, SCS is a sort of a wishlist of things we love, and we think are special. It is the kind of lifestyle we want to have and we can actually be part of. It is affordable fashion, it is stylish bands with their catchy music, it is known and less known movies and the style we find in them, it is young and fresh designers/brands, it is love for (not so expensive) shoes. Being part of society, if not society itself, Fashion has different sides. We found our favourite and personal one, through which we look at the World. We will publish some specific pieces here, but for a more in-depth experience into our side of Fashion head to scissorsclosetsandstreets.wordpress.com.

Vibrant gypsies.

Crystal Fighters

A mixture of sounds and cultures, the love for Basque traditions and folklore, the constant feeling of being involved in a story of mythology and forgotten, wild prophecies and rituals whenever they go live on stage. The Crystal Fighters, part British and part Basque, definitely is an outstanding, eclectic and talented band. Continue reading A Band’s Style #005# – Crystal Fighters

Big up for Australian style!

Formed in 2009 under the name of King George, and later changed into the current name, San Cisco, these four australian guys, Jordi, Scarlett, Josh and Nick, make me enjoy even more indie-pop music. Continue reading A Band’s Style #004# – San Cisco

When a movie becomes art trough perfect images.

Night train to Lisbon – 2013 – by Bille August – Jeremy Irons, Mélanie Laurent, Jack Huston, August Diehl, Lena Olin, Christopher Lee.

Based on the homonymous novel by Pascal Mercier, Night train to Lisbon is, to me, the kind of movie that makes me want to watch it once in a while, without ever getting bored, leaving in me some sort of a nice feeling afterwards, knowing that I will watch it again. My 2014 first great expectation comes from Wes Anderson.

Little Boots, Michelle Wu, The Creators Project and the fabulous LED dress.

The Creators Project never get it wrong! I really appreciate the way they look into Fashion and they celebrate it as a powerful form of art and communication, more than a simple way to “show up clothes” (see This Must Be The Only Fantasy). This time they documented the collaboration between Cyber Cinderella, electro-pop musician  Little Boots, and fashion designer Michelle Wu, who created for her a LED dress that reacts with the beats of her songs, while on tour. Designer Of The Month – A. Sauvage

Focus on A. Sauvage.

No formal training, no work experiences at Alexander McQueen or Vivienne Westwood or any other important fashion designer, no Fashion University. A background in basketball that could have led him into a great sports career, instead. Despite everything Adrien Victor Sauvage is now, at the age of 30, a talented fashion designer, after working for almost a decade as a stylist, personal shopper and lifestyle consultant, that followed his early retirement from a basketball career.

“His vision was to make luxury and sophistication accessible to men with very little effort in a climate which Sauvage saw as dominated by high-fashion catwalk collections detached from function and utility.” And in my opinion he got the point with his creations: easy-to-wear fine suits, casual clothes with a hint of sophistication, urban style readjusted to fit into a more “classic” way to wear.

You see, this is the kind of talent and passion I appreciate: the one that comes from some kind of “instinct” some lucky people own and, if directed in the right way, make them succeed in their dreams. I love his collections and he deserves any credit.

Ladies and gentlemen, here A. Sauvage.

Cinema&Fashion #012# – Stealing Beauty

Bernardo Bertolucci’s poem on screen and the 90s style.

Stealing Beauty (by Bernardo Bertolucci – Italy 1996 – with Liv Tyler, Jeremy Irons, Sinéad Cusack, Joseph Finnes, Donald McCann, Stefania Sandrealli, Carlo Cecchi).

I owe the summer another summery movie, and I am 110% sure that this is the right choice. Stealing Beauty is one of the most poetic, sexy/seductive movies I have ever seen. I remember the first time I saw it: I had to hide it from my mom who thought I was “too young” to watch a movie of “that kind”. I felt so grown up! And I still love it as I loved it the first time.

The location, an amazing villa on a hilltop in the Tuscan countryside, is my ideal place where one day I would like to live. The beauty of the place is emphasized by Bertolucci, whom is the perfect example of someone who makes of the cinema an art…and this movie “screams” Bernardo Bertolucci.

Liv Tyler’s character, Lucy, is pretty enigmatic and…yes…also kind of weird sometimes. She is fascinating. Then there is Jeremy Irons: what can I say? I absolutely venerate him!

Of course I see in this movie a really interesting style: shot in the middle of 90s, and so completely “grungy/shabby style”, it is ironically totally up-to-date. And Lucy is my main, and only, character I wanted to focus on this time. Hope you don’t mind 🙂
