Let’s spend a (worthy) word about – Night train to Lisbon

Scissors Closests and Streets is a blog about an alternative way to see and live Fashion. Part of Goosebumps Mag, SCS is a sort of a wishlist of things we love, and we think are special. It is the kind of lifestyle we want to have and we can actually be part of. It is affordable fashion, it is stylish bands with their catchy music, it is known and less known movies and the style we find in them, it is young and fresh designers/brands, it is love for (not so expensive) shoes. Being part of society, if not society itself, Fashion has different sides. We found our favourite and personal one, through which we look at the World. We will publish some specific pieces here, but for a more in-depth experience into our side of Fashion head to scissorsclosetsandstreets.wordpress.com.

When a movie becomes art trough perfect images.

Night train to Lisbon – 2013 – by Bille August – Jeremy Irons, Mélanie Laurent, Jack Huston, August Diehl, Lena Olin, Christopher Lee.

Based on the homonymous novel by Pascal Mercier, Night train to Lisbon is, to me, the kind of movie that makes me want to watch it once in a while, without ever getting bored, leaving in me some sort of a nice feeling afterwards, knowing that I will watch it again. Little Boots, Michelle Wu, The Creators Project and the fabulous LED dress.

The Creators Project never get it wrong! I really appreciate the way they look into Fashion and they celebrate it as a powerful form of art and communication, more than a simple way to “show up clothes” (see This Must Be The Only Fantasy). This time they documented the collaboration between Cyber Cinderella, electro-pop musician  Little Boots, and fashion designer Michelle Wu, who created for her a LED dress that reacts with the beats of her songs, while on tour. MSGM & Toilet Paper together for an eccentric project.

MSGM-Toilet Paper

During this last Men Fashion Week in Milan there is been a special event to promote a really interesting collaboration. Massimo Giorgetti, designer of MSGM, has freed his provocative mood thanks to the collaboration with the independent italian magazine, Toilet Paper, created by Alessandro Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari.

In fact, the product that came out from this sparkling collaboration, a capsule sweatshirt collection designed by Massimo Giorgetti himself, is something unique and irriverent…just like Cattelan’s art. And it totally fits with young Milan’s tendency for boldness and cheekiness.

Successful project? Well, personally I simply love it.

Designer of the month – DEGEN

Who still think that knitting is a “Grandma’s activity” is wrong. How can I be so sure? During the last five years, back to my glorious days at Uni, and right after, I have seen the art of knitting (because personally I think that being able to knit and through that creating really good things, see knitthecity.com and doknityourself.com, is a true art) becoming a proper trend and then some kind of “movement” that keeps involving ever more people.

My latest discover, thanks to the always efficient and updated shoes website solestruck.com, is called Lindsay Degen, who have made of knit art a way of life, creating in 2011 a proper “activist” brand that goes under the namesake DEGEN.

“My brand celebrates the human body as a work of art and encourages expression through garments. A product of obsession, DEGEN embodies the lover of the handmade, general silliness, and an exploration of ideas through the knitted stitch”, as Lindsay explains.

Her creations are unique, eye-catching and fun in which, as she says, the human body is the central element of her work.

Every collection has a political or deep message, except for the FW 13 one, that is  instead an approach of the human body on a microscopic level, inspired by the work of the designer’s parents, both geneticists.

What a piece of work, DEGEN!

Eric Forey – Architecture becomes texture

Eric Forey is a photographer, but first of all is an observer. What he creates with his photos is poetry, but also expresses his way of seeing the world and all is around himself, from the architecture to the people. The city is his inspiration, and allows him to portrait it in a way that makes you feel better and leaves you open-mouthed.

What he does with his camera is catching images that almost pop out from the framework itself, and all the richness of the colours fills you.

From his works you can see patterns, drawings, colour blocks, stories…and it is amazing to look at that!
