Let’s spend a (worthy) word about – Moxham

You can easily find the metal pieces that Madeleine Moxham uses for her collections in a hardware store, but the way she uses them to turn them into fantastic pieces of jewellery is unique.

This is the kind of creativity I usually appreciate: look at every single tool that comes to hand as something useful for your purposes, think outside the box to create “extra-ordinary” things.

And so I definitely need to add MOXHAM to the list of my current favourite brands. This girl knows what she is doing!

Let’s spend a (worthy) word about – Trainers

I have never been the “girly” type. When I was a child my mother used to send me to the hair stylist once a month to get my hair cut really short, even if I always tried to avoid it and let my hair grow long like my sisters’. In fact I used to be a real tomboy! Style improvement apart, I have not changed much over the years, and the little tomboy girl I used to be is still inside me.

However, despite the fact I still have pretty short hair, like every girl I like to wear high heels sometimes, or a skirt rather than the usual trousers. Actually, what I really like is to mix male clothes with female items: the chioce is wider and the results on my look are, in my opinion, much more interesting than they would have if I was wearing only womanly clothes.

And this is why, when I read magazines, I go around the city taking pictures of people or I browse on the internet, my attention is mainly (but not only) focused on this kind of style.

Lately I find really interesting the so called “sporty-chic” style, a well studied mix of classic female elements with some others more “sporty” and comfortable. Shoes, for instance: trainers with a shapeless dress, an A-line or pencil skirt, combined with an oversized top, are becoming really popular and, for me, the new way to improve my favourite look.

I think I will give to my old and beloved Vans Old Skool another chance!

Let’s spend a (worthy) word about – Marie Turnor Accessories

We already metioned it in one of our articles but then I thought that a simple mention was not enough.

Marie Turnor is a Los Angeles based brand designed by Beth Goodman. The accessories and handbags she designs have this interesting feature: their style embraces “timelessness and eschews trendiness in the spirit of finding beauty in everyday things:  a paper bag, an envelope, folded paper, the colors of nature… The essence of the brand lies in the realization that practical things are also beautiful.”

Of course my favourite bag is the paper bag, made in three different sizes: The Picnic, The Dinner, The Snac. The quality of the products is kept high by skilled local people from Southern California, also with the purpose of “reducing our carbon footprint, providing jobs to the community”.

Love it!

Let’s spend a (worthy) word about – &Other Stories

What I saw last Friday at the opening of the first ever store of &Other Stories in London, left me positively astonished. I am absolutely excited and satisfied of what this brand is selling and I really need to go back there just because I know that my first visit has not been enough.

In there you can find a bit of COS, a bit of Cheap Monday and a bit of something new and fresh that actually works: really wide and wise choice of make-up, high quality of clothes for a reasonable price, along with accessoires (shoes and bags in particular), that are, as we said, a massive and important part of &Other Stories’ image.

Maybe it is too early to be so excited but for what I saw the store, like the products, look stunning.

Tokyo Bike Opening Store Launch Party

For understanding how London is going mental about bicycle you need to pop in event like this. A launch party of a bike shop is transformed in a unmissing event for fashion victims and trends addicted.  This it happens because Tokyo Bike is not a just a shop retail. The bike brand was born in 2002 in Japan and the aim is offer and design bicycle suitable for the cities (in the begin was Tokio and this is why is called “Tokyo Bike”). So we have light and clean aesthetic in a very Japanese way, attention to details and the function. The company was already active in UK, has organized the party in partnership with Dezeen, that brought his dj with Dezeen music project. In the shop there was the exhibition of six customized bikes from six creative artists and during the evening a 520 £ worth bike was gifted as a prize for the business cards competition. The shop will provide a workshop service for repairs and customizations, also selling their own bikes and selected accessories.

Designer of The Month #002# – Maria Francesca Pepe

I admit it: I am jealous of Maria Francesca Pepe.
Born in Foggia (Italy) in 1979, after her graduation in Fashion Design at Marangoni in Milan, in 2003 she move to London to complete her studies at Central Saint Martins.
She represents everything I would like to become: Italian, perfectly established in London, where she lives and works on her succesfull “Jewellery-Wear”, in my opinion amazing creations in line with trends but also with a unique taste and style.
You can recognize a MFP piece because she puts herself in each creation.
Her collections are entirely realised by italian artisans, but the inspiration is openly Londoner.

You can actually WEAR her jewels, as a concrete and important part of your outfit.
Modern and traditional coexist, this is why her creations are so appreciated more and more after every new collection.
I am an “editorials addicted”, I would like to be a stylist and because of this I often keep myself posted, looking at websites as The Ones 2 Watch or Fashion156.com and in most of the photoshootings I see there is at least one MFP’s piece.

I think I will always like the creations of this talented young woman and, as an Italian who lives in London, following an ambicious dream, I like to look at Maria Francesca Pepe as the perfect example of the dream that came true (and this is also the only reason why I am positively jealous of her :D).
Well done MFP!
