Scissors Closests and Streets is a blog about an alternative way to see and live Fashion. Part of Goosebumps Mag, SCS is a sort of a wishlist of things we love, and we think are special. It is the kind of lifestyle we want to have and we can actually be part of. It is affordable fashion, it is stylish bands with their catchy music, it is known and less known movies and the style we find in them, it is young and fresh designers/brands, it is love for (not so expensive) shoes. Being part of society, if not society itself, Fashion has different sides. We found our favourite and personal one, through which we look at the World. We will publish some specific pieces here, but for a more in-depth experience into our side of Fashion head to scissorsclosetsandstreets.wordpress.com.
A mixture of sounds and cultures, the love for Basque traditions and folklore, the constant feeling of being involved in a story of mythology and forgotten, wild prophecies and rituals whenever they go live on stage. The Crystal Fighters, part British and part Basque, definitely is an outstanding, eclectic and talented band. The story itself behind the formation of the band is unique and fascinating: the name Crystal Fighters comes from an unfinished opera of Laure Stockley (vocals) grandfather, a manuscript that she found while clearing out his remote home in the Basque countryside. The whole band was fascinated and decided to give life, in songs and sounds, to the wild and prophetic contents coming from the old men’s writings. Even their gypsy, slightly glamour and picturesque style and appearance on stage are the reflection of their music and inspirations.
The Crystal Fighters’ already mentioned eclectic spirit pushes the band to create music that is a melting pot of different sound techniques and fusion of genres, from soft-experimental electro music to the melodies and dances of traditional Basque folk, mixed with synthesisers, wonk-funk sounds, with hints of early 1980s Spanish punk music.
If I have to give physical definition to the term “standing out”, most probably the Crystal Fighters would be in my list of shiny, talented people that influence my everyday life and are part of my idea of beauty.
Crystal Fighters are Sebastian Pringle (lead vocals, guitar), Gilbert Vierich (electronics, guitars, txalaparta, percussion), Graham Dickson (guitar/txalaparta), Laure Stockley (vocals), Mimi Borelli (vocals), and Andrea Marongiu (drummer)…and I love them!
